Creating Your Road Map to Successfully Managing Your PCOS

Hello All,

For me as a woman with PCOS, I always wanted to know what I could do right now to fix this disease. The symptoms were so bad that I had a really hard time seeing past the emotional side of PCOS.  I was stuck in this cycle of just being unhappy with my symptoms but continually looking on the internet for what would fix all of this right now.  The action part of it was the problem.  It was all so overwhelming.  I didn't know what advice to take next so I stayed in my comfortable little cycle.

I am so excited that we have finally found a way to overcome this and to help you create a road map to managing your PCOS. It will guide you through the different areas of this disease like:

Emotional Wellness
Getting the Basics and Monitoring
Healthy Eating for PCOS
PCOS Specific Exercising
Treatments and Supplements
Infertility and Gestational Diabetes
EmPowering Your Faith

WARNING: This is not for the faint of heart, this is going to require you to show up to the Power Up Groups and to be involved. Your reward will be a clear road map to get you to a point where you can say I AM SUCCESSFULLY MANAGING MY PCOS. That's a big deal! And who knows what other rewards we will see along the way like symptoms getting better or going away completely, getting control of your emotions, being able to accomplish more physical activities and so many more possibilities.

We know you will be as excited as we are to be a part of this so please don't wait to join a Power Up Group now. To find a group near you, please use our Locator by clicking here. If you don't have a group near you and really want to join in then please consider starting a group of your own. It is very simple and really rewarding. It takes only a few short hours a month and most of that time is spent online networking. If this is something that you are interested in, please see more information by clicking on this link.

I look forward to seeing all the wonderful changes coming.

Call to Action! Everyone Please Read This

Why was Power Up for PCOS created?

Let's take a look at our missions statement:

Power Up for PCOS - emPowering Women to Manage PCOS

Power Up for PCOS provides support to women with PCOS through educational Power Up Groups, building connections with other PCOS women, calendar of upcoming PCOS events, professional referrals and reviews, PCOS store, and other specialized events to raise money for PCOS research.

Power Up for PCOS was created because of what I was out there seeking after I was diagnosed.  I know a lot of you are interested in attending Power Up Groups.  Some have even agreed to volunteer for Power Up to organize groups in their area.  The members and volunteers of Power Up for PCOS are working hard to make our mission what we want it to be.

Here lies the problem with accomplishing this:
I have seen very little participation from this group.  I post activities like the Power Up Birthday Bash.  Volunteers have organized groups and last night our California Rep had her first meeting. She took the time to volunteer for us to run a group in her home state.  She took the time to plan out a location, date and time.  She prepared for the meeting and then rushed right from work to the meeting even though she is not feeling well right now.  She sat alone in that room for an hour.  No one showed up.

Do you realize that we are not giving you just another group of women sitting around and talking?  We are providing you with top of the line, high quality and reliable education that will give you the right understanding to help you manage your PCOS symptoms.  Where else are you going to get that?  That's why we created it, because I couldn't find a group where I could go and learn about my PCOS and ask questions and connect with others.

Sponsors have been interested and very willing to give money and gifts to us and those we work with and all they are looking for is to see women participating.  They did not see enough participation so they turned and gave to other organizations.

I choose to work a part time job so that I have time for this because I believe in this and it is my passion.  I give up SEVERAL hours a day away from other things I could be doing to work on Power Up for PCOS.

I understand that you all have other obligations but if you ladies don't put yourselves first then there will come a point where things will get drastically worse for you.  I understand your symptoms are not pleasant but look at the long term reprocussions of not treating your PCOS.

I am making a call to action:
I would like every woman out there to look at where your PCOS is, what your symptoms are and what are 3 things you could do RIGHT NOW to make things better.

The alternative is that Power Up for PCOS will no longer be around.  If we don't get women to the Power Up Group's, to participate in PCOS events and to take control of their health then no one will take us seriously, all our sponsors will go away, our volunteers will quit, and Power Up for PCOS will fail.  So for all those that love what we are doing, TAKE ACTION!

I'm sorry if any of you have found this offensive or too blunt for you but I cannot sit here and put all this work in for nothing.  I do not want online only groups.  This was meant to education and connect us.  Let's Go!

I am asking you all to make this pledge right now:
I WILL become educated about what I can do to manage my PCOS symptoms better
I WILL take steps to manage my PCOS symptoms better
I WILL consider leading a Power Up group in my area
I WILL be actively seeking a group in my area so I can attend and connect with others and become educated.  If the group is going on during a time that is not convenient, I will make every effort to move things around to be able to attend OR discuss time changes with the Representative and the possibility of having another meeting

Thank You,
The Power Up for PCOS Team

Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, Good Bye 2011 and Hello to 2012

This year has been an amazing year.  It is hard to believe that all this started this February(24th). We had an amazing year and I feel so blessed to have had a part in it.  Here are some of the things we accomplished this year:

*We started the Power Up for PCOS website where you can join our network, register for our events, check out reviews on doctors in your area, submit reviews, shop our Shop Cysters store and our CafePress store to raise even more money for PCOS research.
*We had the first ever Power Up for PCOS Walk-a-thon and Virtual Walk-a-thon in which 12 women walked and we raised $2,634.18 for the InCYST Institute for Hormone Health, not bad for a first year. Check out our event photo's.
*We helped to connect PCOS women with some wonderful sponsors and PCOS friendly items like St. Joseph Hospital, Growing Naturals, Boston IVF, Cerene Linens, Maxim, Arizona Mesquite Company, Beauty Foods, iBitta, Stoneyfield Organic, Hannaford, Nashua Medical Group, PCOS Diva, Danielle Ellen Hunter - Interactive & Graphic Designer and Nashua YMCA.
*We have some amazing Representatives that are  starting Power Up groups in 8 different states starting in January
*We completed the first ever Power Up for PCOS 10-Day Challenge where 7 women got some very cool certificates to frame
*We had a picture day in which 33 women posted their pictures, this gave me so much inspiration to see all of your faces and to know who I do this for(it brought me to tears)
*We have built a network of 100 women so far that want to do something for their PCOS like attending our Power Up Groups
*We have 13 wonderful volunteers to help us with our special projects so we can reach more women
*Started a great blog where we have a Share your story section, a FUNtastic Fitness with Gina section, Beautiful You with LeAnne section, Journey Along with Me by Beth section and more.  Some with prizes too.
*And most importantly, we have helped to create lots of wonderful new friendships with other PCOS women

Here are some of the plans for 2012 so far:
*Starting up groups in atleast half of the country and even some overseas
*Starting up local events to raise awareness and money for PCOS research
*Spreading the word to Doctors about Power Up for PCOS so they can recommend their patients check us out for support and education
*Education to involve you spouses and families so they know how to support us as women with PCOS
*Getting more volunteers on board to help with our special projects
*Having our 2nd Power Up for PCOS Walk-a-thon and Virtual Walk-a-thon in September
*And more to come

Thank You from all of us at Power Up for PCOS for a great year and we look forward to a great 2012 and to spreading the word even more.  Without all you wonderful ladies, sponsors and volunteers, this would not be possible.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
